New Year, New Beginnings—At Goodwill Southeast Georgia, donations power our ability to offer job skills training and other workforce development resources at our 5 Opportunity Centers across Southeast Georgia. We help people discover their individual pathway to self-sufficiency and economic stability through employment, educational opportunities, and more. This month, we’re spotlighting ways you can jumpstart your journey with Goodwill this year—and find yourself on the path to reaching your goals!
In this edition, we meet Thomas Adkins, one of the newest members of our Opportunity Center team!
Home Is Where the Heart Is
Introducing Thomas Adkins, Jesup Opportunity Center's Career Services Specialist
For Thomas Adkins, working at Goodwill allows him to do what he loves—in a place that he loves!
“I am looking forward to be able to serve and be a change agent in my home community of Wayne County, Georgia,” says Adkins. “To be able to pursue my dreams while serving my home community is a gift from God.”
Adkins is one of Goodwill Southeast Georgia’s newest Career Services Specialists. He is based at the Jesup Goodwill Opportunity Center, connected to the Jesup Goodwill retail store. In his role, he connects clients with opportunities to reach a brighter future through access to training, education, and support to find work.
Adkins has jumped right in as part of the team; welcoming members of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce as the Jesup Opportunity Center hosted the Chamber’s monthly Coffee and Conversations networking event.
Adkins says he appreciated the opportunity to catch up with familiar faces and make new connections. He says he enjoys being active in the Jesup community.
“I am a member and involved in my home church almost 30 years at St. John’s First Born Church. (I’m also) an active and financial member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.”
Outside of work, Adkins says he loves to read and enjoys inspirational and motivational books. He can also be found cooking or exercising at the gym! Adkins says though he serves the community at work, it is also something he enjoys in his free time.
For him, serving the community adds meaning and purpose to his daily life. “All my service to the community will be done in excellence as I feel I’m serving others to serve God,” says Adkins.
