Meet Randy, Goodwill on the Go Driver!
Whether you are moving, doing a major cleanout or have large items for Goodwill, Goodwill on the Go is here to help!
Randy, a Goodwill on the Go driver, is available to do multi-room or large-scale item pickups in the metro Savannah area.
Sam Rivero, Goodwill events specialist, recently caught up with Randy on the latest episode of the Good News Pod to learn about his Goodwill journey and some other fun facts!
Sam Rivero: Thanks for joining us today, Randy. Why don’t we start with something simple—why don’t you tell me about your experience and how you got to Goodwill?
Randy: I come from Atlanta, Georgia originally. Mostly from Air Freight logistics and freight forwarding. I came down here in 1999 and started helping out with the Congress Center and a small air freight trucking company. We built it massively in five years. So, it was fun stuff. I liked the logistics stuff, I liked the (people-oriented) side of the Congress Center. Everything was a really, really nice mix.
SR: That’s good! So all that experience led you to where you are now, (with Goodwill)?
Randy: Yeah!
SR: What is your favorite part about working with Goodwill?
Randy: The diversity of the people. No two people over here seem to be closely, remotely alike (laughs). I’m not sure how they get it all done together, but it’s kind of like being in the big city where I’m from. There was just a lot of diversity, and that seems to be what happens here, too.
SR: Very nice! What’s something you think people should know about Goodwill and our organization?
Randy: The front office part up there where you help people train and get jobs and that whole side of Goodwill.
SR: Yeah, our Opportunity Centers!
Randy: Absolutely! Wonderful. And it just seems like they seem to be able to place anybody. Anyone can come in here and find something.
SR: A fun question to wrap us up—what’s your favorite part about being in Savannah?
Randy: I like SCAD downtown. I think it makes a difference from living in Charleston or Jacksonville or any of the coastal cities that’s right in this area. You just get that international feel. Almost like a little international city. So I think that’s what makes Savannah so special.
SR: Thank you so much for joining us today, Randy! I’m sure a lot of our readers and listeners are going to be looking forward to seeing you in your big, blue truck picking up their stuff!
Randy: (Laughs) I hope to see them, too!
Randy and Goodwill on the Go team are also here to help when it comes to donation drives!
