New Year's Resolution Solutions!
New Year, New Beginnings—At Goodwill Southeast Georgia, donations power our ability to offer job skills training and other workforce development resources at our 5 Opportunity Centers across Southeast Georgia. We help people discover their individual pathway to self-sufficiency and economic stability through employment, educational opportunities, and more. This month, we’re spotlighting ways you can jumpstart your journey with Goodwill —and find yourself on the path to reaching your goals!
There’s still time to get off to a strong start in 2024—and Goodwill Southeast Georgia can help! Here’s how we fit in with the most popular resolutions out there this year.
Get Organized
(Bonus: Live sustainably!)
Consider taking the Goodwill ‘Get Organized’ Challenge and donate items you no longer need or use. Not only do these items stay out of the landfill and get a second life, but they also help someone in your community reach a brighter future. Each bag of donations directly funds 2 hours of training at our 5 regional Opportunity Centers.
So, let’s get started! Here are four questions you can ask yourself to get started on the Goodwill ‘Get Organized’ Challenge today:
1. Have I used it in the last year?
2. Does it still bring me joy?
3. Do I have multiples of the same item?
4. Does this fit my current lifestyle?
There are plenty of opportunities inside your home to think about these questions. The closet, the kitchen, your bookshelf and more! We are thankful for our donors and all they do to support our workforce development mission. We can’t wait to see all that we can do together in 2024!
Live a more active lifestyle
Workout equipment and activewear can have some steep price tags—but not if you shop at Goodwill! I was able to find some affordable activewear—men’s, women’s and kids’-- at our Eisenhower location. Tops were priced at $4.99 for brands like Under Armour and Reebok, Nike and Adidas shoes were less than $10, and a pair of kids shorts came in at $2.49. Check off another goal accomplished—save more money!
Learn something new
Our resolution help here is two-fold. First, our retail stores are home to great collections of affordable books! If you are taking classes, make sure to visit our stores or ecommerce platform. You might just find your required reading or textbook for a discounted price. I found some textbooks and SAT prep guides on my Eisenhower visit. There was also a wealth of cookbooks—so whether you are trying to learn a new recipe or eat healthier, there’s something for you!
Our Opportunity Centers provide a variety of resources for anyone wanting to learn new skills or brush up on some older ones! Among other services, clients can pursue a certification (forklift, CDL, digital skills, hospitality, CNA and more!), receive career coaching, and participate in mock interviews. We have five locations across Southeast Georgia, open Monday-Friday. Walk-in service is available, appointments are not required!
Meet new people
We love interacting with our shopper and donor community and fostering connections! If you love Goodwill for its mission, thrifting, or both—we have events for you! We host quarterly Sip and Shop events which feature a night of light bites, drinks and special offerings at one of our regional stores. If a day trip is more your speed, keep an eye out for our Thrift Crawl. This event gives you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Goodwill and takes you to several of our locations for a shopping extravaganza! We also host special seasonal events, so stay tuned to our social media channels for the latest information.
