Jesup Opportunity Center: Now Open!

Goodwill Southeast Georgia mission team
The Goodwill Southeast Georgia Mission Services team celebrated the opening of its fifth Opportunity Center, located in Jesup, on May 10.

The Jesup Opportunity Center is now open! Our team at Goodwill Southeast Georgia held a community ribbon-cutting Wednesday to celebrate the addition of our fifth Opportunity Center. There are four other centers across the region in Savannah, Statesboro, Brunswick, and Waycross.

Goodwill’s Opportunity Centers exist to help individuals overcome barriers to achieve their career goals.

“We operate under three pillars: support, educate and employ. Individuals need that wrap-around support, transportation, childcare, educational opportunities and employment,” says Veronica Styron, Vice President of Mission Services. “At each one of our centers, we have a career service specialist. They work with individuals to outline that plan looking at ‘for me, personally, what does success look like?’”

Members of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, community leaders and organizations joined in the Jesup celebration Wednesday. They attended a networking session following the ribbon- cutting. There they learned how they can benefit from Goodwill’s services, or how to partner with us to further our mission of developing the local workforce. Our team is excited about all the new connections and the expansion of our presence in the Jesup community!

The Opportunity Center at Goodwill exists to increase access to educational and training opportunities. Individual jobseekers can receive one-on-one career coaching at no cost. Courses are available to learn resume-building, interview and digital skills. All the Opportunity Centers across the region have a computer lab and training rooms where jobseekers can take courses virtually or in-person. Hiring and training events are held regularly, in partnership with local employers.

To date in 2023, the Goodwill Southeast Georgia Opportunity Centers have served more than 925 individual jobseekers and placed 117 into sustainable employment.

“As we continue to expand our social enterprise footprint, we’re also going to expand our mission footprint,” says Jason Marshall, COO of Goodwill Southeast Goergia. “(The Jesup) Opportunity Center is your Opportunity Center. If there are things you need, opportunities you need, or things you want to request from a training perspective, job fairs, job assistance, (let us know). The services we provide are specific to the area which we operate in.”
