At Goodwill Southeast Georgia, we believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. Our mission is rooted in empowering others to reach their highest potential through educational opportunities.
A strong educational foundation starts early. Students who aren't reading at grade level by the end of third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school. This early milestone not only predicts academic success but also has long-term effects on career prospects and mental health. (Source: Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Dept. of Education)
Leaders at Goodwill Southeast Georgia know that books can empower the next generation. Recognizing the vital role schools play in providing access to books, we recently held our Teacher Book Giveaway on August 3.

We’re thrilled to share that we provided more than 812 free books to local teachers, school staff, and administrators, including more than 116 who pre-registered for the event!
We’re also committed to offering great value to our shoppers, including our hardworking educators. On the day of the event, teachers and school staff received an additional 10% off their purchases, on top of our already affordable prices, with the average item costing just $4.71.
We heard from some teachers who were able to stock up on some great items to get their classrooms ready for a successful start to the school year!
Check out these classroom Goodwill finds from Ms. Kirkland, a local Savannah-Chatham County Public School System 7th grade teacher.
She turned her classroom into a cozy, encouraging learning environment using thrifted items from Goodwill! From eclectic pieces to colorful decor, she created a space where her students want to learn.
With these purchases, Ms. Kirkland also created bright futures for others—purchases from Goodwill fund no-cost training and employment opportunities for others in our community.
We’re proud to support our educators and students, and we’re here to help them succeed every step of the way. Thank you for being a part of our mission to create a brighter future for all!
