According to Crystal, Halloween shopping at Goodwill has transformed dramatically over the years.
“Halloween has grown from being like a seasonal event into a destination experience.”
What once consisted of customers searching for a few costume accessories has evolved into a tradition for many families across Southeast Georgia.
“Today, it’s families planning trips to Goodwill specifically for Halloween. So they’re searching for costumes, decorations, props, and even inspiration.”
The creativity and excitement shoppers bring each year continue to inspire Goodwill team members.
“Our customers aren’t just shopping anymore, they’re creating,” says Crystal.
Why Goodwill Is Perfect for DIY Costumes
No two shopping trips at Goodwill are exactly alike–it’s all about the thrill of the treasure hunt.
Crystal described the experience:

Crystal has seen shoppers transform floral clothing into a “living garden” costume, create movie-quality pirate outfits entirely from thrifted pieces, and build decade-inspired looks from vintage apparel.

Revenue from Goodwill stores helps fund job training, career services, employment opportunities, and support for individuals facing barriers to employment.
So far in 2026, Goodwill Southeast Georgia has served more than 3,600 individuals, provided more than 46,000 services, and helped participants earn more than 200 credentials.(opens in new tab)
As Crystal explained: “When somebody buys a costume or decorations, they’re not just giving that costume a second life. They’re helping create opportunities for people in our communities.”
