Jeremiah arrived in Georgia this spring, fresh off a move from Hampton, Virginia. He was looking for employment but wasn’t sure where to start. That’s when he found Goodwill Southeast Georgia’s Opportunity Center in Brunswick. The welcoming atmosphere drew him in, where he met Brian, the career services specialist at the center.
Brian connected Jeremiah with not only a job—but an opportunity to learn life-long skills. At Goodwill, Jeremiah earns weekly paychecks and participates in skill-based training programs.
These opportunities help Jeremiah plan for the future, and develop skills for future positions. As he puts it, "the more skills I know, the more money comes to me."
Jeremiah says one of his biggest steps forward came from learning how to operate pallet jacks and forklifts. These practical skills boosted his employability and fueled his entrepreneurial dreams. He hopes to use the skills he's learned at Goodwill to start his own business one day.
Goodwill Southeast Georgia's impact on Jeremiah extends beyond the workplace. With a steady income and supportive work environment, Jeremiah has now moved into a place of his own. He says the friendly faces at work make his daily routine much more enjoyable.
When asked what he would tell someone considering joining Goodwill, Jeremiah had a simple yet powerful message: "Go for it!”
Here’s to building more brighter futures like Jeremiah’s!
