Behind the Scenes: Dell ReConnect
How Donating Electronics to Goodwill Helps You, the Environment, and Our Community
At Goodwill Southeast Georgia, we're committed to driving positive change in our community. One powerful way to support that mission is through our Dell Reconnect Program—a partnership with Dell that promotes responsible recycling of computers and computer accessories, regardless of brand. By donating your unused electronics, you’re contributing to a cleaner regional environment and helping to empower neighbors with skills to build better futures in sustainable, mid-wage careers. And what better day to get started than America Recycles Day (November 15)?
What is the Dell ReConnect Program?
The Dell Reconnect Program offers an opportunity to donate computers and computer accessories, ensuring they’re responsibly recycled. At Goodwill Southeast Georgia, we also have a refurbishment program to give gently used electronics a second life if possible.
Why Donate Electronics?
• Environmental Impact:
Together, Goodwill and the Dell Reconnect Program have kept over 96 million pounds of e-waste out of landfills—the equivalent weight of more than 31,000 Toyota Priuses. This impactful initiative helps prevent harmful materials from entering our land and water systems. In partnership with Dell ReConnect, Goodwill Southeast Georgia refurbished or recycled 55,000 pounds of electronics last year, keeping them out of local landfills.
• Empowering Careers:
Beyond environmental benefits, the program has generated over 250 “green jobs” in recycling and responsible e-waste disposal, creating opportunities for Goodwill employees to develop specialized skills. Every donated device fuel training, job placement, and career exploration programs offered for free at our Opportunity Centers.
• Supporting Our Mission:
Every item donated directly funds Goodwill’s job training and employment services, making these programs accessible to people facing financial, educational, and other barriers to employment. You’re not just recycling—you’re joining a mission that opens doors to brighter futures.
How does it work?
Donating is easy! Bring your old electronics to any Goodwill Southeast Georgia donation center. Our team carefully evaluates each item, refurbishing them if possible and responsibly disposing of them if they’re unusable. Plus, for each donation meeting Dell ReConnect’s criteria, you’ll receive a tax receipt as a tangible acknowledgment of your impact.
