Community partnerships create meaningful impact, and a recent collaboration between United Way of the Coastal Empire’s Young Leaders, Tharros Place, and Goodwill Southeast Georgia is a great example of the Cycle of Good in action.
During the August meeting of United Way of the Coastal Empire’s Young Leaders, members learned more about Tharros Place, a residential program serving girls ages 12-17 who are survivors of human trafficking.
Rather than hosting a traditional back-to-school drive, Young Leaders partnered with Goodwill Southeast Georgia to support the organization in a unique way: by turning donations into opportunities.
Closet Cleanout!
Members and friends of Young Leaders were encouraged to clean out their closets and homes and donate gently used clothing, shoes, household items, and other goods through Goodwill Southeast Georgia. Those donations were then converted into Goodwill shopping vouchers, allowing the young women served by Tharros Place to shop for the items they need as they prepare for the school year.
More than an internship
Fifteen donors contributed 21 boxes and bags of gently used goods, and an additional truckload of furniture and household items was donated in support of the effort. Together, those donations generated $410 in Goodwill shopping vouchers for Tharros Place.
This partnership reflects the power of the Goodwill Southeast Georgia mission and operating model. Donations don’t simply become store inventory. They become opportunities. In this case, community donations were transformed into resources that help provide clothing, shoes, and other essentials while giving recipients the dignity of choice.
Through partnerships like this one, Goodwill Southeast Georgia is able to support organizations such as Tharros Place in ways that go beyond a traditional donation drive, helping meet immediate needs while keeping the Cycle of Good moving throughout our communit(opens in new tab)y.
