At Goodwill Southeast Georgia, we believe strong communities are built when organizations come together to serve others. Recently, members of our team had the opportunity to volunteer with the YMCA of Coastal Georgia’s A Place to Dream program, an initiative dedicated to providing children in our community with beds of their own.
For many families, a bed is more than a piece of furniture. It represents comfort, stability, and a safe place to rest. Through this event, Goodwill and community volunteers worked together to assemble and distribute beds, helping create spaces where children can feel secure and supported.
The experience left a lasting impression on many of our team members.
One volunteer shared:
“It was wonderful to see how excited the kids were and how appreciative the parents/guardians were, as well. The entire process was well managed and very efficient and I left there feeling grateful that our community continues to work together to help those in need. The joy I experienced was amplified when one of the kids ran up to me to ask if she could have a hug. It was amazing.”
The event served as a powerful reminder that small acts of service can have a meaningful impact on the lives of local families. Seeing children receive beds of their own-and witnessing their excitement firsthand-highlighted the importance of community partnerships and collective action.
Another volunteer reflected on the experience, saying:
“One moment that stayed with me was watching two brothers light up with excitement over their new beds and teddy bears. It truly felt like Christmas morning. Seeing their joy and knowing they now have a place to rest and feel secure meant the world to me. It was a powerful reminder of why we do this work and how even small acts of service can create lasting change.”
