October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). To celebrate this month, Goodwill Southeast Georgia joins employers, government agencies and other nonprofits to honor the contributions of people of all abilities to our workforce.
Goodwill is the leading nonprofit provider of job placement, training and support services for anyone facing challenges finding employment, including those with disabilities. Goodwill Southeast Georgia has proudly participated in the AbilityOne Program for over 35 years. Through this program, individuals with disabilities receive hands-on training, supportive coaching, and real-world experience in professional environments.
Each AbilityOne Associate is partnered with a dedicated Case Manager who helps them build skills, overcome barriers, and prepare for future opportunities-whether that’s growth within Goodwill or a new role in the community. AbilityOne creates a safe, supportive place to learn and thrive, and many participants go on to find long-term success both inside and outside of Goodwill.
Jaxson is getting ready to celebrate 2 years with the AbilityOne Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, Ga.
In that time, he says he has had a great experience.
“The Ability One program has been able to help me be able to work, be able to get stuff done and be able to help people,” Jaxson shares.
Goodwill Southeast Georgia’s AbilityOne Associates clean more than 1 million square feet a day across three federal contract locations in Savannah, Hinesville and Brunswick.
“I’ve been able to feel more productive when it comes to it. And above all, it feels like I’m doing, it feels like I’m making a difference when it comes to this job,” says Jaxson.
“It feels like I’m actually able to keep on going, being able to help out people, and above all, just be there for those that need me the most.”

NDEAM 2025 at Goodwill Southeast Georgia

The Goodwill Southeast Georgia Unity Squad participates in the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society’s Buddy Walk every year! This year’s event was on October 18.
