Education changes lives, and on Friday, August 28, Goodwill Southeast Georgia and Savannah Technical College celebrated that transformation in action.
Community members, staff, and supporters gathered at Savannah Technical College’s Eckburg Auditorium to recognize Goodwill Southeast Georgia program participants(opens in new tab) who earned workforce credentials during the past quarter. Through our partnership with Savannah Technical College, these graduates gained skills, credentials, and confidence that are opening doors to new career opportunities. We’re proud to support their journey every step of the way.
“This is much more than a completed program, it represents evenings spent studying obstacles you’ve overcome, new skills you’ve gained, and the decision to invest in yourself,” said Holly Schor, Chief Mission Officer at Goodwill Southeast Georgia, as she congratulated the graduates.
“It represents the freedom that comes with knowledge, confidence, and preparation…You have taken important steps towards building the future you want for yourself and your families.”
The event celebrated not only Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) graduates, but also participants who earned credentials in Jockey Truck operations, PIT and Forklift training, CDL programs(opens in new tab), and other workforce-focused certifications. The expanded celebration reflects an exciting evolution in our recognition efforts, honoring the many individuals who are investing in their professional growth and taking meaningful steps toward career advancement.
Dr. Yolanda Robinson, CCMA and instructor for the CMA program, recognized the talent and dedication of the class.
“None of you arrived here by accident. Each of you have been given unique gifts, talent, and a purpose that only you can fulfill.”
For many participants, earning a workforce credential represents more than completing a program. It signifies perseverance, personal growth, and a commitment to building a brighter future.(opens in new tab)
Shanaya Haywood, who graduated from the CMA program, encouraged her classmates with a message about paying forward the support they received from others:
“I challenge each of you to strive every day to become the best version of yourself. Growth happens one day at a time, one decision at a time, and one effort at a time.
I also encourage you to remember the people who helped you along this journey. Someone assisted you with enrollment. Someone answered your questions…I challenge you to extend that same kindness to everyone you encounter. You never know the impact that a kind word or a healthy hand may have on another person.”
