Dec 1, 2019

Savannah, Ga-
Goodwill Southeast Georgia collected canned and non-perishable food items from November 15 to November 30th for America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, a locally inspired volunteer-driven nonprofit food bank and community partnering organization. The donations will help feed approximately 120 families in the local area. Goodwill says that customers and employees contributed to more than 600 pounds of food donated in just two weeks to the 2019 holiday campaign, an effort to benefit the organization and the Savannah community.

Goodwill Southeast Georgia provides many opportunities for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. As a leader in workforce development, Goodwill is committed to decreasing unemployment in the community by closing the skills gap between job seeker and employer. With a vision to lead those served to sustainable economic independence, their partnership with America’s 2nd Harvest of Coastal Georgia is just one of many ways Goodwill helps provide individuals in our community an opportunity for a better future. “We are so thankful for the support of Goodwill.  We know that working together makes our community a better place to live and work,” said Mary Crouch, Chief Executive of America’s 2nd Harvest of Coastal Georgia. Goodwill and America’s 2nd Harvest look forward to more partnerships in the future.

Approximately 2 million people in the state of Georgia struggle with food insecurity and 158,230 in Coastal Georgia. Furthermore, 64% of children in Coastal Georgia go hungry every day. To combat this, Second Harvest serves as the food safety net for tens of thousands of children, as well as senior citizens, low-income families, and people with disabilities who are at risk for hunger throughout Southern Georgia.
