April 25, 2018 Savannah, GA- On April 22nd at the St. Mary’s Goodwill store, associates gathered to celebrate Ms. Shannon’s 12-year milestone working at the location. Shannon was originally referred to Goodwill Southeast Georgia by the GVRA in 2005 after struggling with sustainable employment and her counselor wanted her to try a more competitive environment to take on the challenge of learning new skills in order to live more independently.
After assessment and coaching by vocational rehabilitation specialist Gary Fiveash, Shannon started a 3-month work adjustment program with the St. Mary’s retail location. Over time, she started to come out of her shell and become more comfortable interacting with co-workers and staff, learning valuable work skills as she progressed. Shannon proved that she was dependable, hardworking and a pleasure to work with, earning her a permanent position with Goodwill at the end of her referral period.
Over her 12 years as a Goodwill Associate, Shannon has ridden her bike to work every day and become an integral part of the team. She took it upon herself to keep a poster board in the break-room listing all of her co-workers birthdays and takes the time to put together parties to ensure that everyone is recognized on their day. She loves this aspect of her role and is a vital member of the Goodwill family.
“Shannon loves to tease her co-workers and they tease her right back! It is amazing to see how much more talkative and interactive she is than when we first met.” stated Gary Fiveash, Shannon’s original mentor “She loves working with Goodwill and it is hard to believe it has been 12 years, since she became employed!”
Goodwill Southeast Georgia thanks Shannon for all her hard work and dedication and looks forward to many more years of counting her one of their incredible associates.
