Tax Deductions for Vehicle Donations
Tax deductions for automobiles and other titled property are limited (with some exceptions) to the amount that Goodwill receives when the donation is sold. Goodwill will provide you with a letter advising you of the sale proceeds within thirty days of the sale. Please consult your tax professional.
Tax Deductions for Clothing and Household Items
If you donate clothing, furniture, household goods or other items to Goodwill, the Internal Revenue Service allows a deduction based on the fair market value of those items. In order to deduct more than $250 a written receipt or acknowledgement must be issued at the time of the donation. Goodwill Industries will be pleased to provide a receipt acknowledging your donation at any of our attended donation centers and retail stores. Goodwill stores and Donation Centers do not maintain receipt records for donations of clothing and household items.
