Embrace the Self-Care Aesthetic with Luxurious, Thrifted Fabrics

This is a special guest post from our friends at Goodwill Industries International!

This time of year, it’s more important than ever to embrace the self-care aesthetic. There’s something truly bittersweet that comes with the transition of seasons. You’re not quite ready to release your grip on the great memories and adventures that occurred during the previous season, but there’s still the thrill of change in the air. Though you might have a preference for the outdoors and sunshine, there’s something calming in the knowledge that there are a few months out of the year when everyone is in hibernation or cozying up indoors with candles, blankets and homemade meals. Our culture is truly changing, and taking time for self-care and relaxation is becoming both a necessity and a luxury. If you’re looking to bring a bit of that self-care aesthetic into your home, check out these ideas. Credit: galmeetsglam.com Credit: galmeetsglam.com

What is a self-care aesthetic?

Whether you like to take the time to relax solo or find solace with family on a casual night in, self-care is more than just slathering layers of cleanser and moisturizer on your face and gearing up for a bubble bath – though those are some great ways of treating yourself and relieving stress! Sometimes, self-care is all about being conscious about what you are putting in and on your body, or how you are choosing to spend your time. Take the time to embrace yourself with love and care and know that you can also show yourself the love and respect you deserve with the clothes and materials that you put on your body. Embracing Luxurious Fabrics

There’s something to be said about luxurious fabrics and textiles. Wrapping yourself in silk, cashmere or a super soft, fluffy fleece can have an instant calming effect.  They also look decadent, and even for just wearing around your home, one glance in the mirror can raise your sense of self-confidence. You can casually drape the fluffy blanket over a couch, bed or chair to get the desired calming effect in your atmosphere. Clothes, on the other hand, may need to find their own spot in your dresser or closet. The downside to these materials is that when you shop at retail price (in department stores or boutiques) they are priced on the high-end. Still, there are ways to get these materials into your wardrobe at a highly discounted cost. Think about a J.Crew 100% cashmere sweater for $5! (Yes, this was a real find) Your local Goodwill has all of these treasures and more. You may even find 100% silk blouses for $7 or less. With the changing of the seasons, if you’re cleaning out your closet, think about bringing some donations to Goodwill and, while you’re there, take a look around for some hidden luxury material gems. Your self-care aesthetic routine will thank you! EOY Tw Cover Difference
