Stories of Impact: Nancy
“I was just out riding one day,” recalled Nancy. “I wanted to see where to go for the store and see where everything was.”
Nancy had just moved to the area and was exploring her new community when she came across Goodwill Southeast Georgia.
“I saw the Goodwill and I stopped. I saw a couple of people coming in. When I saw a job fair (inside), I came in and they hired me over the spot. I came to work the next day.”
Today, Nancy is a proud Goodwill Southeast Georgia Production Associate. From the beginning, she found a sense of belonging with the other Associates.
“We just began to bond as a family in there. And by me being much older than everybody that’s here, they were my children in there, and from birthdays, Christmas, everything– they were they always there.”
That support meant even more when Nancy’s son became ill.

“I had to take time off. They rallied around me, although I (wasn’t there). It wasn’t a day that I didn’t hear from this little family, (they) were always here for me.”
When she returned to work, Nancy faced another challenge: learning a new computer system. At first, she was nervous.
“I was like, okay, I’m just not computer savvy at all.”
But her fellow Associates rallied around her helping her practice until she felt comfortable with the new system.
Now, nearly three years later, Nancy still looks forward to starting the morning with the Goodwill Southeast Georgia team.
“There’s not a morning that we don’t come in… and we start the day as a family. And that’s what Goodwill has done for me.”
