With support from Goodwill Southeast Georgia, Michael’s career goals as a licensed commercial driver are within reach.
“I have passed all the exams for the school…within 3 weeks from today I will be taking the state and final exam once I get those exams passed, I should have my license by July,” says Michael.
Michael connected with Goodwill’s Waycross Opportunity Center while working toward earning his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) through Coastal Pines Technical College. After speaking with a Goodwill Career and Resource Navigator, he learned that funding and support were available to help him continue his training and stay on track toward success.
With that support, Michael was able to move forward with confidence, jump-starting his journey and bringing him closer to his goal.
The Ripple Effect
In addition to reaching his own milestones, Michael’s journey is creating a ripple effect for those around him.
“It has inspired my sons and those around me because they see that with effort and dedication you can truly do things to change the outcome of your future,” says Michael. “Without the help of Goodwill and their wonderful employees …I know that I could not afford the CDL program and will not have inspired the people that are important to me, like my kids.”

“Goodwill has showed me that there are programs and good people within them who truly want to see people rise above and become the best version of themselves. I will never forget the experience.”
Michael says this is just the beginning. After earning his credential and gaining experience in the industry, he plans to create his own trucking company.
