Stories of Impact: Justin

In just a few months’ time, Justin, a
G-Force Manufacturing Associate, has secured a certification that has quite literally jump-started a new world of career options.
Justin has always been curious about what makes things move, especially cars.
“I always enjoyed cars as a little kid. When I got older and got one, I had to keep up the maintenance, so it made me want to learn more about like cars and like the engineering and mechanics of engines.”
That curiosity became a passion-and eventually a career goal. Looking to turn that interest into something more, Justin reached out to Marcia, G-Force’s Success Ambassador.

All Goodwill Southeast Georgia sites offer a

Career support and training services are also available for free to anyone, Goodwill Associate or otherwise, who walks through the doors of one of Goodwill Southeast Georgia’s 6
Opportunity Centers.
Marcia saw Justin’s potential and recommended the Avionic Technician program at Savannah Technical College-where he could take his love for mechanics to the next level by learning to work on airplanes.
“It was a bit more challenging than I expected, but a lot of times challenge is what we need. So, I enjoyed it. I learned a lot about the basics of engineering, and it reminded me of like kind of how to work a car,” says Justin.

Goodwill Southeast Georgia’s advanced manufacturing plant, G-Force Manufacturing, located in Pooler, Ga.
During the eight-week program, Justin trained to repair and assemble airplane electronics. Now, with his certification in hand, he’s qualified for three different positions in the avionics field. He’s currently setting his sights on becoming an avionics installer, assembling wires and harnesses for aircraft.
He says the fact that he’s already working on his next goal is all thanks to Marcia, and Goodwill Southeast Georgia.
“I probably wouldn’t have done it as quick as I did without her,” Justin says.
Marcia, though, gives the credit right back to him.
“It’s a good feeling when you have when you talk with one of the Associates and that Associate narrows down (the goal), and follows through. Everything that needed to be done, paperwork, whatever it was, (Justin) was on it. He took care of everything that had to be done. That’s why it was so quick.”
Justin encourages others-whether they work for Goodwill or not-to explore the free educational and training programs available through the Opportunity Centers.
“Definitely go for it, use the resources around you I’m glad I used them. (Goodwill) is here to help,” says Justin.
He says Goodwill is a great bridge for his future career goals.
“I enjoy Goodwill and I’ve experienced both parts. I was in the store, I’m at (G-Force Manufacturing). I enjoy what Goodwill does for people…not a lot of jobs have a lot of programs to where they help the people and get you into programs and (offer scholarships). I’m thankful for Goodwill.”
